I painted this on a sunny afternoon in early September 2024, at Anse-à-Beaufils, a hamlet by the sea, in Quebec, eastern Canada. It is part of the region known as Gaspésie, which is home to beautiful rugged coastal landscapes as well as peaceful historical villages dotting the country side.

Anse-à-Beaufils used to be thriving on the fishing industry. In fact, it was the stage of a fierce rivalry between two fishing companies in the 19th and 20th centuries. In the 1970's, as the cod industry collapsed , the village slowly transformed itself into what it is nowadays, a small harbour for cruise boats with a bar and restaurant.

Sunset here is simply irresistible for a painter.
